Moon Festival
Brief: dances, feasting, mooncake making (demo), tasting mooncakes and other ethnic food, moon gazing and story telling, and fund raising sales

Location: Rutland Centennial Hall, 180 North Rutland Road (just past Highway 33)
History: The Moon festival, also called the Mid-Autumn festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar, when the moon is at its maximum brightness for the entire year, which is in September or early October in the Gregorian calendar. Moon festival as a traditional holiday originated in China and celebrated in many South East Asian countries with dances, feasting, moon gazing, making and tasting mooncakes and story telling to Children. The legends of moon festival are Chang’e (a lady floating to the moon), Wugang (a man in the moon), etc.
Attendance: Everyone is welcome at this free family event. We will advertise and open to public. We will also focus in on the many UBCO students (especially international students who live in the Rutland area). The Rutland Parks Society is eager to partner with OCCA and ISCO in order to create a more welcoming community in their area. Admission is free and students are especially invited. There will be opportunities to purchase a moon-cake to take home and/or craft items to raise funds for local ethinc groups.
Provide Details on the Multicultural Content of Your Proposed Event
- Dances: teach and learn ethnic folk dances;
- Feasting: mid-autumn lantern riddles with prizes to be won;
- Moon gazing and story telling: beside prepared stories, public will also be encouraged to tell moon stories of their own;
- Mooncakes and other enthnic food: demo of cooking methods, sample tasting;
- Fund raising sales will introduce and sell some specific ethnic art works;
